Following a midweek road win against the Jacksonville Dolphins, the Florida Gators find themselves 4-0 to open the 2025 college baseball season.
The team had a big hole to fill coming into this season with Jac Caglianone being drafted. Fortunately for them, Brody Donay has helped them plug that hole so far this season.
In three games against Air Force and the most recent game against Jacksonville, Donay finds himself with a .643 batting average. His OPS sits above 2.400 and his slugging percentage is beyond 1.700.
In Florida’s win over the Dolphins, Donay homered again bringing himself to four total long balls. This kept his streak alive of having a home run in each game this year.
Donay also has not been all hit-or-miss either. His on-base percentage is up at .706. Of course, this is partially due to the fact that he is 9-14 this season, but he only has struck out once this season.
This small sample size does reflect a possible sign of improvement for Donay’s discipline at the plate. In 2024, he struck out in about 44% of his at-bats.
Nonetheless, the great play the Gators’ catcher has shown so far earned him SEC Player of the Week. It may not be the last time Donay earns that award.
Florida’s next game will be on Wednesday, Feb. 19 against the Florida A&M Rattlers. This matchup will be back in Gainesville at Condron Family Ballpark. The first pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. E.T.
