ARLINGTON, Texas- On Saturday, the Texas Longhorns and Ole Miss Rebels played in the Shriners Children’s College Showdown at Globe Life Field.
The pitching went back and forth for the first three and a half innings and no team’s offense could break through. Ole Miss starter Riley Maddox had six strikeouts during that stretch. Texas starter Luke Harrison gave up just one hit during that span.
Then, reigning Big 12 Player of the Year Max Belyeu got the first run on the board with an RBI knock in the 4th inning. Max Gasparino followed that up with a double off the wall when the bases got loaded. This led to two more runs and a 3-0 Longhorn lead.
Catcher Rylan Galvan then cleared the rest of the bases to add two more runs on top of the lead. Texas went up 5-0 and this caused Maddox to exit the game after just 3.1 innings of work.
Kimble Schuessler got in on the scoring action for Texas with an RBI double. Shortly after, the bases got loaded again and Ole Miss reliever Sam Tookoian walked in a run. He exited the game and the Longhorns built a 7-0 lead.
Belyeu tacked on more runs with a two-run home run that made it 9-0 in the seventh inning.
Then, Ethan Mendoza knocked in two more runs to run-rule the Rebels resulting in the 10-0 win.
Harrison ended up having possibly the best start out of any pitcher in Arlington. He went 6.1 innings, struckout six batters, and allowed just two hits.
Texas will play against Oklahoma State on Sunday to end their set of games in Arlington this weekend. The first pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. C.T.
Ole Miss will face off against Clemson for their final game in the Shriners Children’s College Showdown. The first pitch for that game is at 2:30 p.m. C.T.
