Texas Baseball Wins the Shriners Showdown Championship by Beating Oklahoma State, 14-8

ARLINGTON, Texas– On Sunday, the Texas Longhorns helped to wrap up the opening weekend action at Globe Life Field as they faced off against the Oklahoma State Cowboys.

Oklahoma State got the scoring going as catcher Ian Daugherty knocked in two runs in the first inning to make it 2-2.

This prompted a quick exit from Texas starting pitcher Kade Bing. He would be replaced by Max Grubbs, who made his first appearance of the season after dealing with shoulder issues.

The Longhorns responded to the Cowboys’ good first inning with two solo home runs from Adrian Rodriguez and Max Belyeu. This tied the game up at 2-2.

Daugherty made his presence felt again with a two-run home run in the third inning. This pushed the Cowboys back on top making it a 4-2 game.

Texas cut into the Oklahoma State lead with an RBI double from Will Gasparino. This made it a one-run game heading into the fourth inning.

The Longhorns then loaded the bases in the fourth inning. Rodriguez would ground out to first and bring in catcher Rylan Galvan. This tied the game up.

Then, back-to-back errors by Oklahoma State in the fifth inning allowed two runs to score for Texas. This gave the Longhorns a 6-4 lead.

Tommy Farmer IV drove in two more runs with a shot into left field increasing the lead. Belyeu picked another RBI with a double. Gasparino then hit a two-run home run and Jalin Flores scored on a wild pitch.

This made it a 12-4 game in favor of Texas and all eight runs in the inning came with two outs.

The Cowboys’ first baseman Colin Brueggemann got a run back with RBI knock to make it 12-5 in the sixth inning.

However, the Longhorns would respond to that with a sacrifice fly that scored Belyeu and made it a 13-5 game.

Oklahoma State had a sacrifice fly play of their own in the 8th inning as Avery Ortiz came in to score and make it a 13-6 game.

Brueggemann got two more RBIs for himself with a base knock that made it a 13-8 game.

The Longhorns then loaded the bases and scored again on a bases-loaded walk to make it a 14-8 ballgame.

Andre Duplantier II closed out the game resulting in Texas’ win and the 2025 Shriners Children’s College Showdown championship.
